Twenty years ago, a seed was planted by the Children’s Ministries Committee and approved by the Elders of St. Andrew’s to offer a Christian-based after school program for our local community. WATCH (Weekdays At The Church) grew and flourished over the past 20 years – 3,000 little feet have walked and run through the St. Andrew’s campus . . . a total of 1,500 children. And let’s not forget their families.
WATCH ministers to the needs of working parents and their families. Parents need quality after-school care for their elementary-age children. The goal is not to duplicate the clubs and athletic activities already available to children, but to be a welcoming, home-like place where children will not only be safe, but where they can relax and be assured of their special place in God’s world. WATCH provides bus transportation for children from the following elementary schools: Newport Heights, Woodland, Kaiser and Mariners.
On the evening of Friday, November 13, we were joined by past and present staff and families to commemorate the 20 years of ongoing service in the community. Testimonies were shared by the children and parents who have been blessed by the Christian education, amazing staff and long lasting friendships that grew from attending the WATCH Program. Thank you St. Andrew’s for helping to plant the seed and nurturing the growth of this unique program.
