From January 12-23, a team from St. Andrew’s traveled to Agongo, Kenya to serve with our ministry partner, Side-by-Side Ministry. Living into real St. Andrew’s values, team members shared at a leadership seminar, participated in the ordination of 32 local pastors, encouraged educators, and led preventative health training for community members.
A highlight of the weekend was the ordination ceremony co-led by our own Pastor Rich Kannwischer and Pastor Joel Amonde of Side-by-Side Ministry. For more than two years, local pastors faithfully gathered to complete a Biblical Studies program. Pastor Rich celebrated their dedication and championed servant leadership by teaching from John 13.
Pastor Rich washed Pastor Joel’s feet in a powerful demonstration of the downward mobility of the Gospel.
Later in the week, Sue Faassen and Carol Brock led education and health-related efforts. The education team sought to equip and encourage more than 25 teachers and staff members of the Starvation Elimination and Education Development (SEED) Academy. Meanwhile, the health team provided desperately-needed feminine hygiene kits and related teaching on personal care to more than 80 young girls.
As is always the case, team members received more than they gave. Each noted that they were humbled by the hard work, fervent faith, and generous hospitality of our brothers and sisters in Christ, while in Agongo.
St. Andrew’s works with Side-by-Side Ministry to glorify God by promoting community development within the Agongo region of Western Kenya, Africa.
