Judy and Irish Kane Bring Amazing Grace to Local Nursing Home Residents

October 16, 2018 3 Comments Share

Irish and Judy Kane found their God-given passion several years ago, when they visited a Costa Mesa nursing home with a friend. Both of them had personally experienced loved ones being in a nursing home in the past and felt called to continue their visits. Judy and Irish asked permission to come sing some familiar hymns, pray and present the word of God on a regular basis. The offer was welcome and the seeds of their ministry were planted. With the number of residents in nursing homes soaring and the historic evidence of unsatisfied spiritual needs, they knew they had to share this calling with others.

Inspired by the idea of the free gift of God, they named their non-profit OC Amazing Grace Ministries (OCAGM) and applied and were granted official 501c3 status in 2004. OCAGM is a partner-supported ministry, and provide their services to local facilities free of charge.

OCAGM trains individuals to offer presence and support to people in pain, loss, depression, and anxiety. These volunteers bring active listening, burden release, prayer, companionship, connection, reading, singing and the Gospel message with them. Theses interactions facilitate an opportunity to develop relationships with the residents and helps seniors live with purpose and learn to cope with new environments. Since its birth, they have conducted 13,600 Amazing Hour Programs and Special Events giving them 269,225 individual encounters of God’s love and 31,050 volunteer hours served. Today, the team visits 49 care facilities, in 14 cities, 53 times each week, but there are always needs in supporting this growing ministry!
