January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January 4, 2017 2 Comments Share

St. Andrew’s will be partnering to help end human trafficking in 2017. Since January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, we want to begin the year strong by creating awareness around this cause.

In 2013, the Global Slavery Index (GSI) estimated there to be more than 29.8 million slaves around the world. That is more than any time in the history of the world, including the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Of those 29.8 million slaves, just under half of them were in India. Alarmingly, that number has increased to 45.8 million slaves according to the 2016 GSI, with 18 million enslaved in India alone.
